Back awareness workshop photos!

Here are some pics from the back awareness workshop at SunYoga. Note how amazingly straight everyone was sitting... =)

Yoga Cards

Namaste!

The yoga cards are almost finished (thanks JK for a kick in the butt to get these sorted out!)and it is time for you to decide how many packs of cards you want to get. Use in your classes, sell to your students, create vinyasas or practice with the cards at home - these cards are good for almost everything!

That's what I like to see ;-)

latest news from the torture chamber

Yes, Joanna passed.

But like Tony, she has to do the Sanskrit vocabulary.

Congratulations, I suppose.

Who's next in the lion den???????????

Tony passed his Anatomy on the Sunday, 30th November.

Can I please say something to the three of you awaiting your turn: you are training to be yoga teachers first and foremost, not anatomists, doctors, physiotherapists, physical therapists, kinesiologists. So I need you to solve asana problems, NOT to be walking textbooks on muscles.

So all I want you to do is to be able to work out what the hell’s wrong with a student’s asana from SIMPLE FOUNDATIONS, not throw muscle names at me (I will kick ass the next time or scream the shala down): I want you to be able to work out which muscle is too tight, which is too weak, etc, what’s the problem with a certain posture. If you can give me the name, GOOD. If not, so bloody what!!! I am never going to get mad at you if you don’t know the names of the four quadriceps muscles.

So please for God’s sake do not be bogged down by the details to the extent that you do not see the problem. I will not be giving medals for textbook anatomy. This is all about bloody yoga, bloody yoga, bloody yoga and how to teach bloody asana. (I don’t believe I am teaching you all how to use information ...! But just so that you know how).

Right now, I don’t want to see or hear from any of you. I need to find a bar in Goa and try to forget you all.

Pregnancy yoga

Thanks to all who participated in pregnancy yoga and a biiiiig thanks to JK for making this a very interesting course! If anyone have any pictures from the mantra session at the studio, please feel free to add them on to the blog.

ps. The visit at the maternity ward was quite an experience!

GIS Beginner class Tuesday, Nov 25

In Tuesday's yoga class, we revisited the postures for back awareness. Tony demonstrated and recaptured the previous week's class and introduced a few new moves and muscles:
- erector spinae
- rhomboids
- deltoids
- biceps and triceps

(See above for a few of them)

After that, Joanna introduced the abdominal muscles:
- Rectus abdominis
- transverse abdominis
- internal obliques
- external obliques

... and the class did a modified nabhi kriya for approximately 10 mins. We finished off class with a chakra meditation. Have a good week and hope your abs are not hurting too much!
